Background I have played all the versions of the Thief games over the many years. I also enjoy the world and game play for Thieving. Overall I enjoy this game and have had only one temporary performance issue error (during the first 8 hours of play) that required I log out and restart the game. I have a 2010 iMac 7i 16 Gram and while the install took over an hour, the game play and story are holding my attention. Once I play throught the whole game and try the various levels of difficulty I will post again. OVERALL If you like the Thief World you would enjoy this game.

Honestly, making a game for mac that doesnt support the standard mac graphics cards is stupid. Making a game for mac that you have to search through hidden pages in order to find where the unsupported graphics cards are is straight up good marketing, but bad for the relationship between company and public. I’d want a refund if it wasn’t my fault for not looking harder.

If you like the title and idea of this game it’s not a bad one, It has a lot of good stories and a decent plot line to give you some good game. The problems are the crashing and OS check when you launch the game. It keeps telling me I should upgrade to 10.11 when I launch it, and crashes when ever I have completed a “chapter” and is trying to load the new one. The only UI issue I have is the inability to have a real HUD so I can see what I have loaded and or my entire inventory during game play with out having to pull it up. At this point I would wait for an update before purchaing this game the cost is just not worht the hassel Just my $0.02
  • A good but not great game

Thief is a good but not great game. As a player of Thief since The Dark Project, the disappointment comes from the unfullfilled potential, but the game is definitely worth the purchase. The game is run on rails, unlike another excellent port, Shadow of Morder, which is a giant open world. Rope arrows are back, but they only connected to pre-determined overhangs. You cannot jump, but only climb up pre-determined ledges. Virtually none of the environment can be interacted-with — unless pre-determined. And the game is too easy; just run away from guards, you have way too much money to buy equipment, and while shadows are rendered impressively the definition of being “in the shadow” is too broad so you can be in front of a light but be shadowed because you’re in a defined shadow area. A brothel area has needless pornography. Arrows flight in a straight line and you have a reticle. You get the idea. On the upside, the game is beautiful, like SoW or Arkham City beautiful, even if it is not an open world like those two games. The character renderings are great, and Garrett is voiced very well as are all the characters. You get the same satisfaction as in the old Thief games, of dousing lights with water arrows, creating distractions, hiding from guards, freaking out when they surprise you, etc.. When you run, you bob side to side and there is *blurring* — you really feel as if you are running. Running across the rooftops is a hoot. And I am relieved, there are no Boss Fights. At this point, I’ve not seen Hammerites, Keepers, and the rest, but there are hints. I look forward to resuming, and, I know I can replay the whole thing just with different styles of play in the tradition of Thief. stepheda Update — nearly at the end, and while the game is still good, the run-on-rails has become tedious and there are indeed Boss Fights. 3/5 stars. Recommended, if you are a Thief or stealth fan.
  • How did a game this bad get made?

How this game got made is beyond me. It’s unbelievably boring and has no discernible plot or anything resembling a narrative. You can’t really interact with anything other than the very obvious, pre-determined areas of the environment for a particular level. Voice acting is terrible, though the script and unbearably-paced cut scenes hardly give them anything to work with. I have no sense of character, no sense of where or when I am, I don’t care about anyone I’ve met, especially the person I’m playing as. What is this pile of crap? Why waste the resources on porting this instead of the amazing Dishonored? This game is embarrassingly bad!

My imac DOES meet all the requirements listed in the App Store… but when I start the game, it warns me that I "don’t meet the requirements” for an unspecified reason and it might be glitchy. Well, yes, it is glitchy. The game refers me to the feral website to learn more about minimum requirements. A) it didn’t refer me to that info, just the front page of the company website., and B) I couldn’t even find the info after 5 minutes of looking. However, that shouldn’t be the point, should it? The requirements are clear enough in the App store. And like I said, my iMac meets them all. Meanwhile, the download itself caused a problem, that took a while to fix. Then the game started out fine, but froze up after about 5 minutes of play. Very dissappointed and I hope they fix this because Thief is my all time favorite game. This one looked every bit as awesome as the original… until it froze up. If they do fix this issue (seems like a big one, unfortunately) I would love to come back and review the actual game, becasue like I said, it looked tremendous for about 5 minutes. *UPDATE* to this review: I’ve had the game for a couple of days now, and tried playing it again after it froze up. I’m happy to report that I’ve moved through the first 2 “chapters” without another glitch occurring. I have not attempted to play online, just offline. But for whatever reason, after a lot of early frustration, the game is working fine now. It still tells me that my computer does not meet the requirements every time I start up. But, it works. Now that it is working and I could play it for more than five minutes, I can tell you that the game is really good. Obviously I haven’t progressed too far into the story yet, but the gameplay is just as much fun as the oriignal. If you like “stealth” games, this is a great one. So to sum up: Con - it took forever to get the game downloaded and running. The system requirements are confusing (pay close attention before you buy, and even if you meet them, it may tell you that you don’t when you finally try to play it.). It was certainly glitchy for a while. Hopefully your mileage may vary with these problems and it will work great. But that’s what happend for me. Pro - It’s a great first person stealth game. Looks beautiful, gameplay is engaging and smooth. I’ve changed the star rating from 2 for the first day’s experience, to a 4 for what I’ve seen since then. Hopefully it will continure to work. If it works perfectly for you, you might want to give it a 5.
