Description

The most popular Turn Off the Lights browser extension that dims everything in the background, so you can enjoy the video you’re watching without any distractions. Is now available for iPhone and iPad! This app is the darkest mobile web browser where it loads pages super fast, with the power of the Apple WebKit rendering engine. Optimized for Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Yahoo, and Google. No more white screen when browsing the web on your mobile device. With one tap on the white lamp button, it dims the web page. For example, if there is a YouTube video on the page, it will automatically highlight the video player. These days you see more and more students, teachers and also working people with their phone in their hands. And at night you see all that light is shining in their eyes. Thanks to Turn Off the Lights this problem is solved because with one tap on the white lamp button a black transparent layer is added on top of the web page. Turn Off the Lights - Features: ● Turn the lights back on, by tapping on the black layer ● Customizable background color ● Customizable background opacity with a slider ● Supports multiple video sites: YouTube™, HTML5 video,... and more ● Option to choose your own homepage ● Have a bookmarks page ● Have a history page ● Option for search engines: Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Yandex, Baidu or custom Design It's all in a simple and user-friendly design that uses the Google material design principle and tabs to open multiple webpages. Privacy An option to open your link in the incognito mode, that doesn't save your history. Speed It has its speed of the Apple WebKit rendering engine. Open Source Turn Off the Lights is the most popular and favorite browser extension from everyone. The lamp button dims the web page and if a YouTube or HTML5 video player is found, the app highlights it and dims the rest. • Works on a very basic level, so technically better than nothing

It's something that I can use as a secondary browser when I need something in dark mode. The safari extension for night mode needs to be reapplied every time you go to a new page, the adblock you need to purchase doesn't even work with the ads on their support site let alone anywhere else, and as others have said, it does things like messing up the url bar colors. Use it if you have nothing else, but don't buy the adblocker or expect much from it.
  • Would love an update for privacy & options

Great app & extension! But there are slight bugs & options I'd like to see updated. As of today, there's no clear information on data sharing on the App Store description screen, "restore purchase" links mostly crash the browser, and there's no in-app purchase to unlock all features at once. I would really like more color options for text, links & background recoloring under the "night mode" submenu in the Options menu, and I can't seem to add web addresses to the automatic "night mode" menu without turning my phone to landscape mode. There also isn't a "done" button for entries so I have to hit the back link & re-enter to see if the pages I typed in were entered. I would also like to see either the Settings link placed higher in the "•••" menu, or a gear-shaped icon that leads directly to settings at a noticeable part of the browser. Outside of the minor bugs & possible changes I listed, I really enjoy using this browser! Thank you for reading.

You have to click the button every time
  • Permissions to read passwords???

I’d downloaded this app for my IPhone and was about to buy the desktop version when I read the sweeping permissions the app would have, including “read all passwords.” What?? I don’t want any app on ANY of my machines that has that degree of power. I immediately removed all this company’s apps from all my mobile devices.
  • Soo amazing, even works with safari

I didn’t know that having a night mode safari extension was possible on ios, but those guys did it. Please donate to them.
  • Doesn’t work for nytimes site

I tried it on the nytimes web site, and while the background became dark, the text remained dark and was unreadable.
  • Multiple problems

Typing in the URL bar always redirects to the search engine—you can’t direct the browser to a website. The URL bar is dark with black lettering so you need to turn the backlight way up to see your letters typed. The Duckduckgo search doesn’t work. I want to support this but it is not usable as is.
  • Does what it says!

At long last, I’ve found the app for which I’ve been searching for ages. Having installed similar extensions on my desktop and laptop browsers with ease, I began to become annoyed by the fact that my OLED iPhone X now had a ‘dark mode’ but was still blinding me with white pixels—and needlessly wasting a bunch of battery life and screen time in so doing. Reader mode was helpful in many cases, but it does detract from the joys of using certain websites which, apart from their blinding white backgrounds, are actually quite well designed, and using third-party browsers is always an irritating sacrifice on iOS. So when I downloaded this app, tried out the extension and saw my webpages invert to a sumptuously inky black, you can only imagine my relief and excitement! The app’s not been updated in a year, but frankly I don’t give a darn: It does what it says on the proverbial tin. I just wish it could be set up to do so by default, so that I mustn’t manually enable ‘night’ mode for every single webpage.
  • Actually works

Wow, I’m impressed. It’s easy to turn on and off, AND it actually works! I like reading NatGeo articles on Safari and Night mode turns the background dark and the words light just like dark mode on the iPhone. The even better part is that the images don’t invert. They stay as the colors they are, but maybe a bit dimmer. Love it. Perfect for what I need.
  • This is the worse dark mode
