Description

Calm Counter is a visual and audio tool to help people calm down when they are angry or anxious. The app includes a social story about anger, and audio/visual tools for calming down. ********** The app opens up to a “I need a break screen” that vocalizes “I need a break” when it is tapped. The screen then transitions to a red screen with an angry face and the number ten. With each tap the screen transitions to a calmer face and color. In this way, the app prompts the user to count backwards from ten followed by a deep breath. The app also includes a simple social story with line drawings about anger. The social story talks about feeling angry and things you can do, like counting to ten, breathing deeply and taking a break, to calm yourself down. The settings screen allows you to choose from male, female or no vocals for counting back from ten and for reading the social story out loud.

$3 for an app that only counts backward from 10.
  • My students love it, it kicks in my OCD

My students love this app, especially when then are starting to calm down or just starting to escalate. The sounds works if you turn on the volume on your phone. The only thing is the voice never says “all done” my students are okay with this, however it kicks in my OCD. I’m able to move past it and my students find it “funny” when I start mumbling about it not finishing the job.
  • Not worth the money

This app doesn’t do everything it says it does. It literally only has an angry emoticon that changes to a happy emoticon if you tap it ten times. The text isn’t read out loud so why you are able to choose whether the “voice” is male or female is a mystery. There is no voice. What a rip off.

The sound doesn't work at all. Not acceptable for a paid app.
  • Faulty app

I hate paying for faulty apps and this one is full of glitches - mainly the 'calming' countdown clock races backwards. And with the iOS update it's even worse. Please fix- it's a good concept poorly implemented.

This app works great for us. I just updated and haven't had any issues with the updated version either. I have a student who actually requested this app by name when feeling upset. Nice, clear narration and simple, bright graphics. We love it.

Would probably be great if the sound worked. Waste of money!!!

I love this app. I think it needs to have more breathing times though. The deep breaths definitely help with calming.
