Description

A simple CSV editor for OS X. The CSV format is a common used file format to store and exchange tabular data. Almost all spreadsheet and database apps (e.g. Excel and Numbers) support it. Unfortunately, not all CSV files are made equal. There are differences either in record delimiter, character encoding, decimal separator or quote style. These differences can lead to serious errors. TableTool handles these issues automatically. It detects the specification of a CSV file for you and displays its contents in a table view. Using TableTool is the easy way to create, edit and convert CSV files. Open Files: When opening a CSV file, TableTool detects the format specifications (record delimiter, character encoding, etc.) automatically. You can also set the specifications manually. Edit Files: Edit the contents of the cells, rows and columns of the document easily in a grid based user interface. Convert Files: Convert an existing CSV file to a different format. Table Tool is released as Open Source under the MIT License. The source code is available on Github.

    By Easy, simple, everything.
Good but not friendly with text starts with zeros. The zeros have been removed if the text is 0001, only 1 left in the cell.

I opened a file and added one row and one column. I was going through each row and adding notes in the new column. This took a couple hours. Then I clicked a button labled "Header" and it REMOVED ALL THE INFORMATION I HAD TYPED IN. The undo button did nothing. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT.
  • Can't handle CSV files with multiline fields.

Excel and Numbers (as well as other free/low-cost tools such as ModernCSV) handle CSV files that include newlines within cells, but TableTool does not appear to do so.

I use this app more or less every day to open .csv files from other sources and resave them, knowing that TableTool will save a properly delimited and quoted .csv that will import reliably into other applications. It's a simple tool and it's very much not Excel, but for what it does, there's no equal. Great job, team.

I have a file with 30,000 rows in it. This tool allows me to quickly remove extra line feeds from one of the colums, add new columns, and enclose text from one field in quotation marks.

The editing in this app is great. However, if you're looking to change just 1 value this app will overwrite your whole csv with it's own quotations and white space handling. This is very unwanted when working with versioned data files.
