Description

No account necessary. No hidden costs. Now in their 12th year as a mobile app, and their 14th online, the Wise Pilgrim Guides are the go-to source of up-to-date information on the Camino de Santiago. The app is updated regularly with new content and new features and offers you the ability to leave tips for pilgrims following behind you. This guide covers the Camino del Norte from Irún to Santiago de Compostela and includes all of the alternate routes along the way. It has been redesigned and now works almost exclusively offline (to share your comments with others will require a data connection). As more an more albergues share their WiFi this becomes less of an issue, and the guide will tell you which ones offer WiFi. Accommodation Directory: A full directory of Albergues, camping, hotels, pensions, paradors, and cases rurales. Over 500 in total, with special attention to those that can be booked online. Stageless Guide: No more "stage anxiety" or guide created bottlenecks. Maps: Offline and online versions of a beautiful topographical may will give you a good view of the terrain ahead. Photos: Photos of albergues, monuments and other points of interest along the way. Currently 400+ images and growing. Scrollable Elevation Map: This one is hard to show with just a screenshot, but the elevation that appears at the top of every city page scrolls East to West. One complete elevation, from Irún to Santiago, uninterrupted by page folds. Comments: Albergue closed early for the season? Have a restaurant that you want to share, or perhaps one to warn others about? Every location in the app gives you the opportunity to leave a comment and to read the comments left by others. No registration necessary. ¡Buen Camino and thank you for your support!

this has been an essential, beautifully functioning app for my camino del norte walk
  • Map does not work

Does not work without cell service so was useless to me. Even when I had wireless all the little icons dropping on my phone screen made it a hot mess.

It's only $2 but not worth it. Map does not work offline. Need internet connection. Map is practically unusable with the annoying icons covering everything. Can't customize what you want to see. Map moves to some central location every time you access and then have to hunt around for your current location. Should have the ability to go straight to current location. Should have incorporated elevation and map into a single screen. I've switched back to using downloaded tracks on Pocket Earth for navigation and Consumer Eroski for elevations, lodging and commentary.
  • Good But Could Be Great

There are many features of this ap that I am grateful for, but the one feature that I do not like is the portrait-only display mode. Especially for a walk that runs east to west, it would be so helpful to have the ability to view the map in landscape mode. Also, it would be helpful to have a way to contact the developer directly to make this suggestion.

I used this app September 2015 when I cycled the Camino with my buddy. There were many times I had no idea if I was on the Camino or not as it's easy to miss arrows and you're going fast and. It paying attention to figure out where the yellow arrows are hidden. The map feature was great. Also the elevation part was nice to see what was coming up. Also liked how it had some albergues listed so I knew where they were at. Only issue I remember was maybe the way the map loaded as I would go in and out of the app and it would load in the same place as the first time I opened the app. Maybe fix he way it keeps dropping the pins every time you move the map around. Really a must in the Camino and if you have tmobile, no worries about data usage as it's unlimited and all part of your normal plan, which I had 3G about 95% of the entire Camino. Highly recommend this app

There is no offline map, meaning evertime you open the maps, it diwnloads many megabites worth of data. Since its easy to use, you can easily use a GB in a few days. The rest of the features are great, intuitive, and very helpful app while on the camino.
  • Great app! Has been super super useful!

Could you allow offline mode for the map view? It's the only feature missing in the app but otherwise super useful! Also if there was a side by side map view and altitude comparison that'd be great, too!

Great app. For beta. Missing fee details and functionalities, but help me a lot. Always looking for albergue location or right path.
