  • Absolute scam

If the book is finished, you can read six chapters then you pay 29 coins per chapter. If the book is 100 chapters, that’s nearly $30, but most are longer. If you want to charge for completed books fine, but charge a one time fee to unlock the entire thing and don’t make it more expensive than the vast majority of novels.

So when I first began to read the stories on this app, it was a great experience. Awesome books, anticipating chapter releases and recommendations. I like to scrolling banner that shows new interests and had a weekly pass option for various books, but now everything I enjoyed about the app has changed. There is no longer a pass option on Wednesdays. The books I am reading have lost the option for a new free chapter each day. Several of the translated titles are riddled with errors to the point some parts are not able to be understood at all! There also used to be a prize wheel that could be spun every day for free tokens and such which was the first thing that I noticed disappearing. I understand that there are no ads in this app, but if all of the free options are being taken away because of that, I’d much rather see banner ads and ads at the end of chapters than have to deal with not reading the books I enjoy! Please do something to make this a more enjoyable experience like it was before. I don’t have the funds to buy coins, and I’m almost certain that these books are not in regular libraries. They seem to be self published and it is irritating to deal with that fact. Even the main WEBTOON app has options to get free coins so titles can be read for free. What makes this one so different where that isn’t an option?? I’m seriously irritated by all of the hassles and blocks that have recently come into play with this. I want to know why.

READERS BEWARE if you are going to use the daily pass system be aware they randomly remove books from the daily pass program. In the past they did it after they released the final chapter of the book but recently they removed a book from the daily pass list that is still releasing chapters. Beware any book you are reading may be removed at anytime leaving you hanging unless you have large amounts of money to spend. Very disappointing. This app offers good stories and several ways of reading for free. It offers one chapter per day for free, AKA daily pass, on most( but not all) stories. However the chapter length varies greatly from novel to novel and even the stories that offer daily pass do not off the daily pass on the last 5-7 chapters so if you want to finish you story you have to pay for the last few chapters with coins. I normally use promo codes the give out to read these chapters. I have even found a few novels almost completely free. One novel only the last chapter, labeled bonus chapter or bonus story, was not free and the second was the same except the bonus story was 7 chapters long. The entire book was free except the last 7 chapters. Coins can be bought (do not expire)or received from promotional events(do expire). They give out promo coins, which is super nice, fairly regularly. Unfortunately they give out numbers like 100 or 500 when most chapter cost 27 or 29 coins meaning a good chunk of those coins will expire before you can use them because the chapter cost do not go evenly into the number of promo coins given. Unfortunately buying coins is extremely expensive, considering most novels on the app can easily cost up to $50 by the time you buy all chapters, where as a paperback novel or digital book on Amazon normally cost approximately $20. An example is popular book The Remarried Empress. To by all current chapters the total cost would be between $70-$80 at this time(this includes buy chapters in groups of 50 versus 1 at a time, which does save some money). They do not currently have an option to buy the entire novel at once, even for completed novel. App also offers extra free chapters on Wednesday and Friday however the app chooses which novels are part of the promo so it is really a way to get you engrossed in a new story vs. a way to help you read more of your current stories. However sometimes you get lucky and the books you are read pop up on the lists Wednesdays they offer passes (normally 20) that you can use to unlock any chapter for free, with in the chosen novel. Fridays they unlock a certain number of chapters to be read for free starting from the beginning. I have seen this number as high at 138 as it seem to be based on the number the novel contains (They still always leave a a decent chunk of the end of the novel beyond of the unlocked chapters). This is awesome, however if a novel you are reading has 50 chapters unlocked and you have already reached chapter 51 you get nothing new unlocked but you could reread the first 50 chapter as a binge read.
  • Please include ads to unlock stories

I really like this app but it could be better if they included watching ads to unlock the stories…(I’m too broke)😭

I have multiple reading apps on my phone and I think this one is probably the worst. New users get a daily login bonus that literally only last for I think two weeks. Then after the two weeks you don’t get anymore bonuses. Granted there are some promos that offer free coins if you read so many chapters but my problem is, I’m not going to read a book I have no interest in reading just for coins. The prices for coins are outrageous and I refuse to buy coins just to be able to read a few chapters compared to (if the book is actually published) buying a physical copy. Not everyone is made of money who can just blow it on buying coins.
  • Sketchy monetization, just let me pay for things normally

This should be a website not an app, and the app doesn't let you buy things in any normal way. Instead you have to buy "coins" in intentionally mismatched sets, the whole thing feels like a predatory mobile game instead of a place to pay for content.
  • Paywalls

I downloaded Yonder to read the webnovel version of webtoons I’ve been reading. I started hitting paywalls in the middle of a series, and am unable to finish at all with daily passes and am unwilling to pay hundreds of dollars in order to finish. And the paywalls kick in at really strange episode numbers: in “My In-Laws are Obsessed With Me,” it hit at episode 46, “Marry my Husband” hits at 51, and “I’m the Queen in this Life” hits at episode 246. The first two series mentioned are finished, whereas the third is ongoing with daily release. I could understand if they wanted the paywall to kick in 100 episodes before the current one, but it’s really random to end where it is. “Remarried Empress” has 337 chapters and I didn’t hit a paywall at all. There should be better regulation or signage about if there’s a paywall and when it occurs, and then also a time period where it will become free for daily pass users.
  • Absurd and irrational prices, poor translations, and odd content

I downloaded the app specifically to read a couple translated Korean novels, but the quality of translation can really vary. Like Beauty of Thebes, which I think has a fairly interesting plot, is excruciating to read the translation is extremely poor (I get the sense that the translator is not comfortably fluent in English). Some sections are just incomprehensible, there are editing mistakes, and the wording can be pretty cringey. I’m fairly confident it’s the translation and not the writing too. My main issue though, is that the prices are just unreasonable. I highly recommend people just avoid this app because the prices feel predatory and kind of scammy. Most of the content on the app is really not the highest quality either. The chapters are very short (think maybe two pages of a paper novel), and you only get one chapter free a day and it only lasts for 3 days. So it interrupts the flow of reading to read for free. But to pay is wildly expensive for what it’s worth. Most of the novels, especially the Korean ones but English ones too, are 200-300+ chapters. One story I was reading they stopped offering wait until free with no warning WHILE I WAS READING IT (rude), has 231 locked chapters. It’s 29 coins for a single chapter. To read the whole story, it would be 6,699 coins. You would have to purchase the 10,000 (+2,000) coin pack for $99.99(!!!) to read it. So that ONE story would be $55.82. That’s absolutely outrageous. You can get the entire Harry Potter series on kindle for $62.99. And this story, which doesn’t have the same quality, isn’t even done! So it would actually be more than that. Remarried Empress, which is completed and very popular, is 337 chapters ($81.42!!!!) and there are plenty stories with more chapters. I would be totally fine paying for an entire story, but not at the prices they’re currently at (especially given how subpar the quality is). The average romance ebook on Amazon is usually under $5 and they usually had an editor. Also, as far as content… the stories on this app are very strange. It’s a lot of monster smut, “mating”, breeding kinks, weird toxic “alpha male” stuff, and a lot of male leads that straight up emotionally abuse the female lead, but she still ends up falling for them for no reason. The quality is really very similar to wattpad and fan fiction, but unlike fanfics and a lot of wattpad, it’s not free. TLDR: The prices are unreasonable. I’m not paying $50-80 dollars on a single story that is poorly translated and/or basically unedited. While I would actually like to purchase some of these stories, I cannot do so until they cut the prices by like 3/4ths (at least) and/or change their wait-until-free period. Overall you’re much better off reading on Radish, wattpad, Libby, or Hoopla.

I’m new but not really to yonder and I love it I can read the books and everything but then when I have to pay for the coins I do and when I do pay for it and run out I look forward to the daily spins, but when I went to spin, the daily spin wheel wasn’t there and I’m confused because that’s the only way I got coins besides the competitions now I’m stuck at 8 coins and it’s 29 to unlock the story and I can’t pay for extra coins

This is the first and most likely last time I’ll ever write a review. I’ve never written one in the AppStore because I’ve never been this outraged by a company before in my life. You’re telling me to unlock 1 chapter it costs 29 coins which you can buy 1000 for 10$. So you can only unlock around 30 chapters with that and usually that would be pretty reasonable, except for the part that most Korean web novels that are on this site are a 2 minute per chapter read. Before Yonder was introduced into the game everything was fine, fan translations were doing well, authors books were being published overseas, and they still made money. There’s other companies like WuxiaWorld that have much better translations and paywalls. This company was just solely created to generate revenue without actually caring about their readers nor authors. Terrible app, terrible paywall, atleast try to listen to your reviews.
