The only reason I left off one star, is that it crashes at the end of the Asgard scenario of the campaign. :/ I kind of hope the developers decide to keep this one around for the next OS.

I paid. I tried to use it. It started with a viking to make his first walk. It was broken. Left clicking and Right clicking would never move the character. I could never play. I completely wasted my money. Never buy this game.

The gameplay is good, but there is SUCH a low game ceiling. Once you have your carpenters shop 3 and your pottery 3 and your masons 2 and barracks and armoury and smith industry……..the game just…ends. Not literally, but there is nothing left to do. It would be great if the makers could somehow have some buildings that could be built over and over again, but there are none. Also, WHY IS THERE NO MULITPLAYER?!? That would have SO saved this game. There is even multiplayer training but there is no use for it couse theres JUST. NO. MULTIPLAYER!

$20 and it seems that all I got was a name change in the dock. If there is a difference between Cultures Northland and the old (and great fun) Northland, I don't see it. On to support or refund.
  • Overpriced

The title says it all. This would be a good buy at $3.99. When I pay twenty dollars for a game I expect quality. The graphics aren't bad if you're zoomed out but when you get in close they look terrible. The UI is chunky and hard to manage. I don't know what kind of games the people who gave it five stars play but I play a lot of games and I feel like I got ripped off with this one. I don't mind the level of detail and control. It's the way they are implimented that bothers me. I'll avoid all games by this company in the future. Live and learn.

this game is totally unique, and easily has been some of the most fun I've had with a computer game ever. don't expect to understand how to play when you first open this game up, there's a lot to figure out, but the level of control and detail in this game is unparalleled. the primary goals are to grow your settlement, amass goods and resources, explore the map, and crush your enemies. every viking has a profession, and the longer they work in that profession the better they become and the more they can do. e.g. a carpenter starts only knowing how to make wooden tools and spears, but eventually can build entire ships to carry your warriors across the ocean and into battle. the more vikings you have in different professions, producing different goods, the easier it will be to grow and conquor. everything is interconnected, too - for example, if your baker is good enough to make cake, the wife of your shipbuilding carpenter will bring it back to their house, and the carpenter will be more sated and rested when he comes home than if the baker had only made bread, and thus your ship will be completed sooner. if he's equipped with shoes and iron tools, he'll make the trek from the carpenter's shop home and back faster and the construction will go by faster as well. before you know it, all you'll need is a captain and 14 brave warriors willing to risk their lives on the high seas for a chance at glory and riches. the actual fighting, though, is a pretty small part of this game. your entire army can be shot down by archers sequestered in towers in a matter of moments if you aren't careful, or maybe you'll overrun the enemy town in half the amount of time it took you to walk there. weapons, armor, and potions help, as you might imagine, but the work put into a piece of full plate armor versus woolen or leather can be daunting. be prepared for a lot more economic depth and complexity than a traditional strategy game. (if age of empires is 50% war 50% economy, this game is 98% economy, 2% war).
  • Way better than Age of Empires

I've played this game since I was a kid (older versions) and I've always loved it. I was devestated when I switch over from a PC to a Mac and couldn't play it. I disagree with the people who say this game is "too detailed." Like I said, I played it as a kid and never had any trouble. It's awesome if you want to me more involved with your villiagers than just watching the settlement from afar. It's like The Sims meets Age of Empires.
  • VERY involved

So, after reading the two reviews below, I decided to fork over the dough and give this a try. It is VERY involved. Like, VERY VERY involved. In my opinion, this game is rough for a Mac, particularly if you're using a track pad. Right-click is a very important key. The tutorial was ok, but the learning curve on this game seems pretty intense. I find myself really wanting to understand and enjoy this game, but it seems like a heck of a lot of work. I keep starting the game, and then quitting after about a half hour of frustration. Not a great thing. Overall, I'd have to say that I would not recommend this game unless you're a pretty dedicated task-manager.
  • worst real-time strategy ever

I would give this a minus 5 if I could! I want my money back! It's the worst RTS I've ever played. It's completely non-intuitive! It's not a click and go like the age of empires platform! Playing the game is like retraining your body to move after a life-threatening stroke! You know what needs to be done, but you must be patient, and go through the agonizing details of telling your people to erect signposts so they won't get lost. There are master controls and minor controls for each individual, 30 or more for actions that should be as simple as "build" or "collect". The tutorial looks like it was made by a group of 5-year olds; each giving you directions on how to control different characters. Terrible game.
