    i started using wattpad ages ago when i was around thirteen and i am now twentyone. it’s a place i’ve always gone back to as it has brought me great joy in more ways than one. i think a lot of the positive reviews for this app is very accurate. it’s a app where you can read and write. you can find new writers and less committed writes work which is not something not easy to come by unless you find a place like this which i personally think is amazing. i myself use this app to write as i really enjoy the chapter feature though i don’t typically post on it anymore. this company specifically also has become a great place for those who want to take writing more seriously which is also amazing. i think them charging for certain books is perfectly fine and me personally i don’t find an issue with this. what i do find an issue with is the ads on this app. i know the world is changing and people have bills to pay but i have never in my life been so annoyed with ads on an app as i am this one. they are very disruptive. there’s a video ad in between just about every single chapter now. there ads at the bottom of the screen while you read which is VERY distracting especially if you are someone like myself with reading disabilities (these are also there while reviewing your own work as a viewer before you post it btw which is beyond insane to me.) there’s ads on the main page as well. i can understand the ads on the home page and the OCCASIONAL video between chapters but this in my opinion has gotten out of control especially considering that they have in app perks you can purchase. these ads just feel unnecessary. i shouldn’t have to pay to get rid of ads so i’m not interrupted while reading something wrote by a small artist who i’m 90% sure is not getting the earnings from the ad. also something else i’d like to complain about is the algorithm. the search bar has become next to useless. the algorithm isn’t the way it used to which is extremely annoying. i would say i could just go to ao3 but i don’t want to support that company for personal reasons that are much more serious then some ads and algorithm issues but i really hope wattpad can fix these things as i’m sick of seeing them and don’t wanna spend another $10 on a app so i don’t have to get billions of ads every time i use it. i will say though them having the volume warning on the ads is very helpful but doesn’t help when the ads are between every single chapter (and you can’t even avoid them anymore).

  • WHY are you getting rid of private messaging???

    The company focuses too much on adding and removing unnecessary features while neglecting to fix existing issues. Now you can’t add media to a chapter because the feature is broken but they get to remove private messaging? As an author, it’s really value to have private messaging because not every discussion should have to be public. It’s a great way to answer questions and make clarifications. Also, if the company insists on removing the feature, do all the conversations HAVE to be deleted? A lot of the reason I prefer Wattpad to other writing platforms is the private messaging system and the history that comes with it. But, like EVERY other redeeming feature they have, Wattpad had to take it away if there’s no way to monetize it.

    This company doesn’t care about their users. They’re removing the private message function that many users on their site use and still want. The only way for users to chat now is publicly. They don’t value your privacy or their users.

  • Dms are a core feature and the only reason I use wattpad

    If Wattpad removes DM’s I would like to say I’m just going to leave the site entirely- Wattpad has become my one place where I can feel accepted and make friends- removing DM’s is going to leave the site entirely- at that point it’s just not worth my time

  • Private messaging

    This app is destroying itself. It has always ignored its users who have requested an option to make their accounts private. Instead Wattpad decides to remove a key feature of the app. Private messaging is a basic, vital feature, it is how users communicate and it creates a community on the site. Removing it is beyond destructive, it is literally forcing users off the app. Many users, such as myself, will be quitting.

    Soon gonna have a new update to delete Direct Messaging option. Completely unnecessary and gives us even more limited options on Wattpad. First the news feed and now this. What will they remove and restrict us on now?

    Why remove the private user messaging??? I always thought that was a really interesting and nice feature to have, that you could just message followers and people. It was a GOOD feature for a while, so why get rid of it? I understand if there was harassing and bullying going on, but just charge it so that you can’t message someone else you both mutually follow each other??? I think instead of removing private messages, you should update it. It’s always upset me that you can’t search back in old messages using a search bar that MOST apps for chatting have. I want to look back at my old messages with my partner and close friends on there but I can’t because there’s no message search option

    still can’t use something as simple as emojis on message boards, now the pm feature is leaving, automatically unfollowing people i didn’t unfollow, i get notifs for books not in my library, and not getting notifs for books actually in my library.
