Voting and Karma: Instead of likes and hearts, Reddit’s social network runs on upvotes or downvotes. Voting on posts and comments increase or decrease the creator’s karma, and helps popular and relevant posts rise to the top, while filtering out low-quality or irrelevant posts. While karma doesn't directly impact your ability to use Reddit, more karma can increase posts’ visibility and help you get noticed. Some communities require karma to post or comment, which helps prevent spam or low-quality content. The site allows corrupt/racist/bigoted mods to run their site for them because it is free labor. Using this app is a quick way to extremism through echo chambers. A “forum” that is not free and actively dissuades thought is not a forum at all
  • Bad

It’s flat out a bad app for using reddit. And on top of that there’s promotional material under posts disguised as comments

Unlike other online thread sites, reddit forces you to download the app, make an account, and potentially lie about your age just to see threads that it has deemed “mature content.” This makes sense for truly sensitive content but it is extremely bothersome to someone who does not want a reddit account or the app, and just wants to see existing threads on different topics online.

Reddit is a massive information machine, one that you simultaneously approach with a high degree of skepticism, yet embrace with a giddy feeling of access to billions of minds globally from every walk of life. It gives you the ability to magically teleport to another land and culture very different from any you might have known before. It is a tool that must be navigated delicately, with a high degree of enthusiasm and an ideal level of engagement that is both thoughtful, factual and diplomatic. Ultimately it offers another data point where you can connect the dots to decode what is really happening in the world.
  • New UI gestures oversight

Within the past day or two there was an update to UI gestures when tapping into a post. Functionality before was that you could tap a post to pull up a full view of the image/video/media. For galleries, you could swipe left and right to either end and stay in the post. There was a button for the comments section. Swipe up went to related posts in the same subreddit/feed. Swipe down went back to the card view of the feed. This works fine. With the new change, when swiping left, you don’t hit a stop with galleries anymore. It will move on to the next recommended post. If that post is a gallery as well, you have to swipe through ALL the images in the gallery to get to the next recommended post. There’s no other way to continue seeing recommended posts. There’s also no way to stay confined within a single post/gallery anymore since there is no stop. Swipe up used to be next recommended post, replaced with comments. There was already a button for comments in at least 2-3 places I could think of for a post. Now, the new gestures make the UX more difficult instead of intuitive. They weren’t all that intuitive to begin with, but this makes it more redundant for comments, and harder for post discoverability. I’d love to see more customize-ability with these settings, or at least a way to revert.
  • You actually managed to make it worse.

Bravo, full marks. You guys actually managed to make the swipe feature EVEN WORSE. Over the course of the last year the functionality of swiping through posts has slowly but surely been taken away, with it outright NOT WORKING ANYMORE as of the last update. Oh, what’s that? You filtered a subreddit by a certain keyword and wanted to swipe through the media of all the posts that have that keyword? Well, too bad, we’re removing that FOR NO REASON! Oh, what’s that? You filtered a subreddit by “hot” or “most controversial” or “top of all time” and wanted to swipe through the media of those posts in descending order? WELL TOO BAD, WE’RE REMOVING THAT TOO FOR NO REASON! RANDOM ONLY! IT WORKS FOR THE REST OF THE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS, WHY NOT REDDIT? Stop it.
